About the position

The Patient Access Representative at NeighborHealth plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients feel welcomed and supported during their visits. This part-time position involves capturing accurate patient information, providing exceptional customer service, and facilitating efficient patient flow within the health center. The representative is the first point of contact for patients, responsible for verifying demographic and insurance details, managing cash transactions, and maintaining patient confidentiality while supporting the overall delivery of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with patients and staff courteously and respectfully.
  • Verify patient demographic, insurance, and account information accurately.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Observe patients and alert clinical staff of those needing immediate attention.
  • Complete insurance verification processes daily according to departmental policies.
  • Manage work queue and correct dropped accounts to avoid delays in claims processing.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow by registering patients quickly and accurately.
  • Handle Privacy Notices and other required forms according to policies.
  • Track and collect co-payments and other payments securely.
  • Refer patients to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Report maintenance issues for office equipment like printers and copiers.
  • Promote teamwork and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Provide coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Previous experience in health insurance or medical setting preferred.
  • Previous cash handling experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated superior customer service skills with internal and external customers.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Integrity and accuracy in cash management.
  • Detail-oriented with respect to data entry and insurance eligibility interpretation.
  • Proven time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to learn quickly.
  • Proficient computer skills.
