About the position

The Patient Access Specialist II plays a crucial role in the healthcare organization by performing clerical duties and contributing to the unit's operations. This position involves managing inbound contacts from patients and physicians, coordinating appointment scheduling, and providing high-quality customer service. The specialist is responsible for maintaining patient information and ensuring a positive experience for all callers, thereby supporting the overall mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Receive inbound contacts (calls, emails, faxes, etc.) from patients and physicians requesting services.
  • Coordinate complex appointment scheduling linking consults and ancillary services required for assigned specialty services.
  • Maintain patient demographic and insurance pre-registration information in appropriate department scheduling systems.
  • Provide patients with information on physicians, location directions, and educational materials.
  • Answer questions from patients or physicians and interview callers to understand their information needs.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service on every call and promote teamwork and call center success.
  • Satisfy customer needs while maintaining the image of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; minimum of two years of college preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office, hospital, medical call center, or similar customer service environment.
  • Working knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, medical insurance plans, billing, regulations, and mainly managed care plans.
  • Knowledge of PC word processing, PC spreadsheets, and applications.
  • Proficiency in multi-line phone systems, copier, fax machine, calculator, and information applications required for the position.
  • Meet call performance, schedule adherence, data accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Certification on host systems EPIC, Meditech, OCIS, MOSAIC, and IDX as appropriate within the introductory period.
