About the position

The position is responsible for the accurate collection and record-keeping of payments received for services rendered, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and guidelines. The role involves processing charge tickets, maintaining cash levels, and assisting with patient education regarding insurance plans, all while adhering to confidentiality and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately process charge tickets as patients exit the facility.
  • Review and code tickets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine appropriate fees for services rendered and calculate totals.
  • Collect appropriate amounts from patients and properly record information.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of cash and balance cash drawer per company procedure.
  • Balance daily input of coding to actual money or deposits.
  • Key charge information into online entry program as required.
  • Follow up on accounts until no balance or account is turned over for collection.
  • Refer patients to supervisor or Accounts Receivable representative for clarification or discussion of account and/or payment terms.
  • Operate and maintain credit and collection equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate supplies inventory.
  • Assist with coding and error resolution.
  • Assist with patient education concerning insurance plans.
  • Maintain files with referral slips, insurance, and insurance waivers.
  • Assist in the referral process.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines to prevent unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Use oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas.
  • Maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Implement job responsibilities consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics.
  • Support and adhere to CHRISTUS Service Guarantee.
  • Operate telephone, computer, copier, fax machine, and 10 key calculators by touch.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of billing experience, including ICD9, CPT, and HCPCS coding in a healthcare organization is required.
