About the position

The Patient Account Specialist at Cancer Care Northwest plays a crucial role in the billing and reimbursement team, ensuring that services provided are reimbursed by various third-party payers. This position involves resolving claim denials, managing outstanding claims, and assisting patients with inquiries, all while maintaining compliance with billing guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure reimbursement for professional/hospital services provided by Cancer Care Northwest from third-party payers.
• Resolve claim denials, short-payments, credits, and outstanding claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
• Answer incoming calls to assist patients with inquiries regarding their accounts.
• Demonstrate knowledge of insurance benefits affecting claim payments and payer billing guidelines.
• Identify denials and underpayments and submit corrected claims as necessary.
• Prepare and submit grievances and appeals to resolve claim rejections.
• Navigate payer websites and utilize delegated claim resolution tools effectively.
• Review and respond to written correspondence related to patient accounts.
• Ensure accuracy of patient account data and communicate variances with team members.
• Document all activities in the Practice Management System accurately.
• Complete written requests for AR adjustments and refund requests as needed.
• Prioritize and complete all work efficiently and accurately.
• Maintain open and professional communication with customers, colleagues, and vendors.
• Work effectively in a team environment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of patient accounts experience or two (2) years of medical business office experience.
• Basic understanding of ICD10, CPT/HCPC, modifiers, place of service, and insurance EOBs.
• Knowledge of insurance benefits and payer billing guidelines.

Nice-to-haves
