About the position

The Patient Accounts Specialist II at Austin Regional Clinic is responsible for assisting incoming callers and patients with billing inquiries, ensuring accurate collection of insurance and demographic information to set up patient accounts. This role emphasizes excellent customer service while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and company policies. The specialist will handle various tasks including financial counseling, account management, and communication with patients and insurance representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Receive inbound telephone calls from patients and insurance representatives.
  • Ask verification questions before releasing confidential patient information.
  • Review explanation of benefits documents and explain them to patients.
  • Provide financial counseling and payment arrangements to walk-in patients with outstanding balances.
  • Maintain and follow up on work queue accounts, documenting all actions clearly.
  • Process patient refund requests and forward them to the Refunds processing team.
  • Request information on patient charges from clinics and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Return calls to patients regarding the status of their inquiries within established timeframes.
  • Obtain and verify insurance and demographic information from patients to set up accounts.
  • Update existing patient information as provided by patients or site resources.
  • Run registration reports and follow up on incomplete or missing account information.
  • Research member account transactions for eligibility inconsistencies.
  • Maintain complete and accessible files and resource materials.
  • Assist coworkers as needed and document productivity statistics for the CBO Supervisor.
  • Utilize Payor website systems to complete the registration process accurately.
  • Adhere to company policies including OSHA, HIPAA, and Code of Conduct.
  • Work holiday shifts as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience with admitting/registration, insurance claims, or related customer service.

Nice-to-haves

  • One or more years of medical billing customer service experience.
