About the position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) at Mayo Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting nursing staff by performing delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care. This position emphasizes a relationship-based care model, ensuring individualized and appropriate care for patients. The PCA will work under the supervision of a registered nurse and must demonstrate knowledge of patient care principles across various age groups. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including potential shifts during days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, and may involve floating between different areas as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care.
  • Carry out designated skills within the functions of a certified nursing assistant as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Communicate data reflective of the patient's status and delegated tasks to the nursing staff.
  • Adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Float between the Satellite and Main PACU area depending on the needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Graduation from a vocational program for nursing assistants required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification through Arizona Board of Nursing is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous PCA experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills preferred.
  • Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) preferred, required within 12 months of hire.
  • Relevant experience preferred.
