The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) position at Houston Methodist Hospital is a full-time role focused on providing essential patient care under the supervision of licensed nurses. Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care and services under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met and document relevant data.
• Perform basic patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, comfort, and nutrition.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to communicate patient care information effectively.
• Maintain, clean, and stock equipment and supplies as needed on the assigned unit.
• Respond to call lights and assist with patient needs promptly.
• Report observations and conditions of patients to licensed personnel to achieve desired outcomes.
• Participate in performance improvement projects and seek opportunities for self-development.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education (GED or partial completion of post-secondary education).
• Completion of PCA externship, internal internship, or six months of direct patient care experience.
• Enrollment in a nursing program with a completed first clinical rotation is acceptable.
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification (AHA) is required.
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant state licensure is required for Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab departments.
