About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) position at Houston Methodist Hospital is responsible for providing basic patient care and support under the supervision of a licensed nurse. This role involves assisting with daily living activities, conducting hourly rounds to ensure patient needs are met, and documenting care provided. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education (GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, etc.).
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification (AHA).
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant state licensure (for Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab departments only).
• Must complete one of the following: PCA externship, PCA internal internship, or six months of direct patient care experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting or direct patient care.
• Enrollment in a nursing program with a completed first clinical rotation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care and services under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met and document care administered.
• Perform basic patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, comfort, and nutrition.
• Respond to the call light system and follow through with meeting patient needs.
• Maintain, clean, and stock equipment and supplies as established on the assigned unit.
• Report observations and patient problems to licensed personnel to achieve desired patient outcomes.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional team by communicating pertinent patient care information in a clear and timely manner.
• Support initiatives to prevent conditions such as pressure injuries and patient falls.
