About the position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) position at Houston Methodist Hospital is designed for individuals who assist in delivering patient care under the supervision of licensed nurses. This role involves performing basic patient care activities, conducting hourly rounding, and ensuring patient needs are met for a diverse patient population. Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care and services under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient needs are met and document relevant data.
• Perform basic patient care activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, comfort, and nutrition.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to communicate patient care information effectively.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and supplies on the assigned unit.
• Report observations and patient conditions to licensed personnel to achieve desired outcomes.
• Support initiatives to improve patient safety and satisfaction.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education (GED or partial completion of post-secondary education).
• Completion of PCA externship, internal internship, or six months of direct patient care experience.
• Enrollment in a nursing program with a completed first clinical rotation is acceptable.
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification (AHA) is required.
• CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant state licensure is required for Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab departments.
