About the position

The Medical Assistant position is responsible for providing excellent patient care by greeting patients, obtaining necessary demographic and financial information, and assisting with various clinical tasks. This role involves direct patient interaction, performing vital signs, and conducting Point of Care Testing while ensuring quality control. The Medical Assistant will also handle scheduling appointments, returning messages, and coordinating follow-up tests and referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients on the phone and in the clinic in a warm and friendly tone.
  • Register and interview patients to obtain accurate demographic and financial information.
  • Schedule appointments and follow-up tests, referrals, and prior authorizations.
  • Assist patients, nurses, and providers in patient care in the clinic setting.
  • Perform vital signs and obtain history of chief complaint for visits.
  • Conduct various Point of Care Testing and document results, ensuring quality control.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a nursing assistant, EMT, or medical assistant program of study.
  • Two years of employment at a licensed medical facility in the role of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant may be applied in lieu of program of study.
  • BLS certification issued through American Heart Association required.
  • Expected to obtain certification as a medical assistant within one year of hire.
  • Outstanding Service Excellence skills to guarantee quality patient care and satisfaction.
  • Knowledge and skills to obtain vital signs and PHI.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Initiative on performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to navigate through computer software using a mouse, keyboard, or stylus.

Nice-to-haves

  • A minimum of one year medical experience that includes direct patient contact, preferred.
