Responsibilities

  • Receive daily assignments and carry out direct patient care responsibilities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Monitor up to 12 patients at one time using audio/visual remote monitoring equipment.
  • Promote a cooperative working relationship with team members and other staff.
  • Facilitate and enhance communication with patients and colleagues.
  • Display honesty, respect, and sensitivity to cultural differences and age-specific needs.
  • Accept and provide feedback in a professional manner.
  • Perform duties of the first responder in emergency situations.
  • Organize and effectively set priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Six months recent direct patient care experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to safely and effectively monitor multiple patients at one time.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing situations.
  • Basic arithmetic computation skills (addition and subtraction).
  • Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.
  • Successful completion of Medical Center Patient Care Assistant training.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Efficiency in multitasking and prioritizing simultaneous situations.
  • Flexibility to work and orient at all UCSF locations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in remote monitoring.
  • Multilingual skills.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience.
  • Recent Float Pool experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to the responsibilities of the job.
