About the position

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a casual, as needed Patient Care Assistant to work with our team in the Virtual Integrated Care Department. The Patient Care Assistant plays a crucial supporting role to nursing by conducting various patient care activities. This position involves providing both direct and indirect non-professional nursing care under the supervision of nursing or medical staff. The responsibilities primarily include performing essential duties such as cleaning, taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting patient information, escorting patients, assisting with activities of daily living, managing clerical duties, and ordering and receiving supplies. The role is vital in ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and support during their treatment process. Candidates interested in this position must demonstrate their competency by providing documentation of an 80% or higher score on the Medical Terminology exam. This requirement underscores the importance of understanding medical terminology in providing effective patient care. It is important to note that this is not a remote or work-from-home position, indicating that the Patient Care Assistant will be required to work on-site at the hospital, engaging directly with patients and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient care activities under nursing or medical supervision.
• Perform cleaning duties to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
• Take and record vital signs of patients.
• Obtain lab specimens as required for testing.
• Chart patient information accurately and timely.
• Escort patients to various locations within the facility.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Manage clerical duties related to patient care.
• Order and receive supplies necessary for patient care.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant degree or West Virginia C.N.A. license or PCT Certification required.
• CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
• Glucoscan certification within 90 days of employment.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred.
