About the position

The Patient Care Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the authorization team and pharmacy by facilitating the processing of copay assistance applications and free drug programs. This position involves direct interaction with patients to gather necessary information, manage care plans, and coordinate prescription refills, ultimately helping patients access affordable treatments while addressing the administrative needs of the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the submission and follow-up of copay assistance and free drug program applications
  • Communicate with patients to collect required information for financial aid applications and ensure timely submissions
  • Support the authorization team by managing patient care plans and coordinating necessary follow-ups
  • Assist in securing prescription refills for patients, including contacting pharmacies and confirming approvals
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, pharmacy, and the authorization team to ensure smooth coordination and address patient inquiries
  • Maintain accurate records of patient applications, approvals, and any other relevant documentation in the clinic's system
  • Ensure timely updates to patients regarding the status of their applications and prescription refills
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to align care plans with patient needs and financial resources
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care, application progress, and resolve any barriers to treatment access
  • Follow clinic policies and procedures, adhering to all confidentiality and HIPAA regulations

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's degree in healthcare or related field OR minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, especially in patient support or pharmacy coordination
  • Knowledge of medical insurance, copay assistance programs, and prescription drug programs is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and team members
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and experience with healthcare software or EMR systems
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a patient-centered approach
