About the position

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) role at Spaulding Rehabilitation involves providing essential clinical support under the direction of a registered nurse. The PCA is a vital member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, responsible for ensuring a safe and compassionate patient care environment. This position requires a commitment to patient care, effective communication, and adherence to established guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide physical care to patients, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linens.
  • Assist with general patient care such as positioning, lifting, and turning, using adaptive and transfer equipment as needed.
  • Monitor patient activities, including vital signs and blood glucose levels, according to established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist them as necessary.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to meet patient needs.
  • Document patient care in a timely manner, adhering to established standards.
  • Organize patient rooms to optimize space and maintain a clean environment.
  • Obtain and label specimens according to established procedures.
  • Mentor and teach new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Complete additional departmental, organizational, or network activities as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required unless the candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care is required.
  • Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant undergraduate program with completed patient care rotations is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program is preferred.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations is required.
