About the position

The Patient Care Associate in Behavioral Health at Waterbury Hospital is responsible for providing general patient care under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). This role involves assisting with daily living activities, nutritional support, vital signs monitoring, and other patient-related tasks to ensure safe and efficient delivery of care. The associate will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of patients in a behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform selected tasks and activities to assist the nurse in assessing, planning, and evaluating patient needs.
  • Conduct patient-related activities, diagnostic testing, and therapeutic treatments under the direction of an RN.
  • Respond to patient needs and communicate effectively with team members to provide quality service.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment within budget parameters.
  • Participate in staff meetings and maintain required competencies.
  • Support and participate in the Quality Improvement (QI) process.

Requirements

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • CPR certified.
  • Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare team members.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs.
  • Ability to work in a time-oriented environment and handle physical demands such as lifting and pulling patients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical terminology.
