About the position

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) role at Massachusetts General Hospital involves assisting registered nurses in a 30-bed orthopedic unit. The PCA will engage in various patient care functions, ensuring a high standard of service and safety for patients undergoing orthopedic treatments. This part-time position requires working three 8-hour shifts, primarily during the day, with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist RNs with patient care functions including phlebotomy and EKGs.
  • Transport patients safely within the facility.
  • Check and maintain rooms and equipment for patient readiness.
  • Assist patients with dressing and feeding as needed.
  • Perform some clerical functions to support the nursing staff.
  • Respond to patient requests in a timely manner while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
  • Monitor patient safety and communicate respectfully with patients and staff.

Requirements

  • Licensed, certified, or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program at the time of hire.
  • Candidate enrolled in a Nursing program, Pre-Med, or PA undergraduate program with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed at the time of hire.
  • Effective customer service orientation and ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff, and providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport patients safely.

Nice-to-haves

  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care.
