About the position

The Patient Care Associate in the Emergency Room at Waterbury Hospital is responsible for providing general patient care under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). This role involves assisting with various patient procedures, ensuring safety and efficiency in patient care delivery, and maintaining effective communication with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Perform selected tasks and activities to assist the nurse in assessing, planning, and evaluating patient needs.
• Conduct patient-related activities, diagnostic testing, and therapeutic treatments under the direction of an RN.
• Respond to patient needs and communicate effectively with team members to provide quality service.
• Follow organizational and departmental precautions and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
• Order and maintain supplies and equipment within budget parameters.
• Participate in staff meetings and maintain competencies specific to the unit or department.
• Support and participate in quality improvement processes.

Requirements

• Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• CPR certified.
• Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare team members.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Basic computer skills and ability to operate or learn to use a computer.
• Ability to work in a time-oriented environment and handle exposure to blood borne pathogens.
• Physical ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and stand or walk for extended periods.
• Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program.
• Completion of a formal training program including direct patient care activities and technical procedures.
