About the position

We are hiring a Patient Care Associate (PCA) to join our ICU team at Spartanburg Mary Black campus! This is a PRN position, meaning the PCA will work as needed, primarily during the night shift from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. The PCA plays a crucial role in providing patient-related clerical activities and unit clerical duties, including computerized order entry procedures and other unit activities as applicable. The PCA must be adept at understanding and addressing the specific communication needs of patients, families, and visitors. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the PCA provides focused non-licensed clinical care for patients across the age continuum, which includes performing phlebotomy, basic nursing skills, and providing environmental assistance to facilitate quality service and improve patient outcomes. The PCA is responsible for documenting and communicating with team members in a timely manner regarding patient progress, needs, and problems. This role requires collaboration with leadership in developing and implementing the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare Systems' mission and goals. The PCA is an integral part of the healthcare team, ensuring that patients receive the highest level of care and support during their stay in the ICU.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient-related clerical activities and unit clerical duties.
  • Execute computerized order entry procedures and other unit activities as applicable.
  • Provide focused non-licensed clinical care for patients, including phlebotomy and basic nursing skills.
  • Assist in environmental tasks to facilitate quality service and improve patient outcomes.
  • Document and communicate patient progress, needs, and problems to team members in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement the healthcare system's mission and goals.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • 17-year-olds who will obtain a High School Diploma or GED within one year are eligible.
  • Preferred experience includes hospital experience, being a graduate nurse, or having a certificate from an approved multi-skilled technician program.
  • Completion of the first semester of nursing clinicals is preferred.
