About the position

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) plays a vital role in providing clinical support under the supervision of a registered nurse. This position is essential in promoting a safe and compassionate environment for patients, particularly those with brain injuries. The PCA is responsible for various patient care tasks, including personal hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with mobility, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out patient care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide physical care to patients, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, and changing bed linens.
  • Assist with general care activities such as positioning, lifting, and turning patients using appropriate equipment.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and blood glucose levels as per established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals and assist them as needed.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights.
  • Document patient care activities in a timely manner according to established standards.
  • Organize patient rooms to maintain a clean and efficient environment.
  • Obtain and label specimens according to established procedures.
  • Mentor and teach new nursing assistants to meet performance expectations.
  • Complete additional departmental or organizational activities as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required unless the candidate holds a nursing assistant certification.
  • Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care is required.
  • Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant undergraduate program is preferred, with at least one semester of completed patient care rotations.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program is preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Basic skills in math and computer science are required.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required.
  • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations is required.
