About the position

The Patient Care Coordinator at Optum is responsible for managing patient interactions and supporting the care team to enhance health outcomes. This role involves completing processes and protocols, ensuring excellent customer service, and adhering to organizational standards. The coordinator will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to meet financial, clinical, and service goals while maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with medical regulations.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously
• Obtain accurate and updated patient information, such as name, address, insurance information
• Perform insurance verification on the date of service
• Confirm and schedule appointments
• Schedule referrals and follow-up services for patients
• Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
• Maintain patient confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA and OSHA requirements
• Provide effective communication to patient/family team members and other healthcare professionals
• Notify clinical staff of schedule changes as they occur
• Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
• Demonstrate precision and efficiency in scanning documents and monitoring the fax server
• Complete new clinical competencies rolled out by the Educational Committee
• Perform other related duties and assignments as required

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
• 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
• Intermediate level of computer proficiency including the use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and multiple web applications
• Ability to travel 25% of the time to nearby offices

Nice-to-haves

• 1+ years of experience working in a medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records
• Knowledge of EMR software
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
