About the position

The Patient Care Coordinator at Optum is responsible for ensuring a seamless patient experience by managing various administrative tasks related to patient care. This role involves working closely with the healthcare team to support the organization's mission, deliver excellent customer service, and adhere to established protocols. The coordinator plays a crucial role in maintaining patient information, scheduling appointments, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain accurate and updated patient information, such as name, address, insurance information
  • Perform insurance verification on the date of service
  • Obtain patient signatures for required documents
  • Upload a valid Government issued state ID of patient and patient insurance cards
  • Accurate and complete occupational medicine registration workflow
  • File and maintain medical records
  • Consistently correct registration work queue errors
  • Confirm and schedule appointments
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously
  • Perform referral documentation promptly
  • Work daily in the claims edit work queue and referrals work queue to correct registration errors for submission to insurance companies
  • Perform follow-up services for patients, such as scheduling specialist appointments and obtaining lab results
  • Adhere to the standards identified via Sparq regarding Optum Employee Policies
  • Work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Keep abreast on current medical requirements relevant to their position, including maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Participate in planning, coordinating, and implementing care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
  • Assure continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
  • Provide effective communication to patient/family team members and other health care professionals
  • Notify clinical staff of schedule changes as they occur
  • Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
  • Demonstrate precision and efficiency in scanning documents and monitoring the fax server
  • Participate in orientation of new field employees and distribute updates as needed
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required
  • Organize and maintain medical records
  • Complete new clinical competencies rolled out by the Educational Committee
  • Work independently and assist with clinical duties on a limited basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency (multi-task through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • 1+ year of experience working in a medical front office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Ability to travel to other offices if needed for coverage

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with an electronic health record or EPIC
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
