About the position

The Patient Care Coordinator at Optum is responsible for greeting and registering patients, managing their wait times, and ensuring a smooth check-in and check-out process. This role involves handling cash payments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records, all while providing excellent customer service to patients and visitors. The position is crucial in connecting patients with the necessary healthcare services and resources, contributing to improved health outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients as they arrive and manages wait time
• Completes check-in and check-out tasks including insurance verification and pre-authorizations
• Collects co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issues receipts
• Manages cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
• Processes walk-in patients and visitors
• Answers phones and schedules appointments
• Redirects calls and assists callers with questions or concerns
• Manages medical records including filing, scanning, and processing requests for release
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
• 1+ years of related healthcare experience
• Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Nice-to-haves

• 1+ years of experience with electronic health records
• 1+ years of customer service experience with strong communication skills
• 1+ years of experience handling and triaging telephone calls
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to handle cash and perform mathematical computations
