About the position
The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) role at University Hospitals is designed for individuals who assist in providing patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. This position is critical in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care in various units, including Emergency Department, ICU, and Med/Surg. The PCNA will perform essential duties such as assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitoring vital signs, and supporting patient mobility, while also demonstrating strong communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Complete patient care activities as delegated by the RN.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) for patients.
- Monitor and record vital signs and input data accurately.
- Perform 12 lead ECGs and bladder scans as needed.
- Assist with hygiene and venipuncture where applicable.
- Utilize patient assistive devices and care equipment specific to assigned population.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association must be obtained during orientation.
- One year of customer service experience preferred.
- Experience in a large teaching hospital preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in ICU or Emergency Department settings.
- Familiarity with blood sampling and EKG procedures.
