About the position

The Patient Care Specialist at Amerita is a vital role focused on providing exceptional service to patients, pharmacies, and medical professionals. This position serves as the primary contact for patients, handling inbound and outbound requests, onboarding new patients, scheduling refill orders, conducting patient assessments, and addressing financial concerns. The specialist is expected to practice first call resolution and ensure effective communication with healthcare providers and patients regarding their pharmacy needs.

Responsibilities

  • Practices first call resolution to help health care providers and patients with their pharmacy needs, answering questions and requests.
  • Communicates with patients and physician office staff to resolve issues, coordinate medication deliveries, collect co-payments, and triage calls to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Handles inbound calls using first call resolution customer service practices.
  • Obtains supply inventories from patients/clients and communicates information to the Pharmacist, documenting all communication in patient progress notes on the pharmacy computer system.
  • Notifies patients/caregivers regarding coverage and payment responsibilities, collecting co-pay balances or out-of-pocket balances.
  • Participates in management, departmental, and intra-departmental meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Performs activities related to the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal laws and REMS programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree
  • Licensed/registered pharmacy technician as required by state law
  • Previous experience in Pharmacy
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician desired
  • Registration with Board of Pharmacy as required by state law
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB)
  • Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred
  • 2+ years pharmacy experience
  • 3+ years pharmacy experience preferred
  • Pharmacy or healthcare-related knowledge
  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology including sig codes, Roman numerals, brand/generic names of medication
  • Basic math and analytical skills
  • Intermediate typing/keyboarding skills
  • Specialty pharmacy operations knowledge
  • Leadership skills desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented and great time-management skills.
