About the position

The Patient Care Tech at INTEGRIS Health, located in the 4E Mother Baby Unit, is responsible for performing delegated direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This occasional part-time position requires the individual to adhere to population-specific competencies and National Patient Safety Goals, ensuring a high standard of care for patients. The role involves a variety of personal care tasks, including but not limited to mouth care, bathing, perineal care, and assisting with mobility. The Patient Care Tech plays a crucial role in maintaining patient safety, which includes verifying identification, adhering to fall protocols, and ensuring a restful environment for patients. Additionally, the position may involve performing treatments such as urinary catheter care and enema administration, as well as transporting medications as needed. The Patient Care Tech must be prepared to work in an environment that may expose them to infections, communicable diseases, and various environmental hazards. They are expected to follow standard precautions and be aware of the physical demands of the job, which include constant standing and walking, as well as the ability to lift and carry medium weights. Effective communication skills are essential, as the Patient Care Tech must interact with patients and healthcare staff regularly. This position requires a commitment to ongoing training and competency assessments, particularly in nursing assistant duties, to ensure the highest level of patient care is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Performs personal patient care tasks such as mouth care, making beds, giving baths, perineal care, hair care, shaving patients, giving backrubs, and emptying bedpans or urinals.
  • Assists with patient safety issues including the presence of identification arm bands, adherence to patient fall protocols, and use of restraints.
  • Positions patients and promotes an environment conducive to rest and sleep, while reporting incidents or injury occurrences.
  • Performs treatments such as urinary catheter care, enema administration, preparation of sitz baths, applying compresses, and assisting with patient ambulation.
  • May retrieve and transport medications as needed.

Requirements

  • Current BLS certification or completion within 90 days.
  • Successful completion of a recognized nursing assistant course or an accredited nursing program with skills lab or clinical rotation; or 3 months of employment in an INTEGRIS patient care area with training and observation; or 12 months of nursing assistant experience in an acute care facility, nursing home, home care setting, or long-term care facility; or prior hospital corpsman medical training in the military.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Completion of department-specific competencies during the orientation process.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a float pool setting.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment.
