About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Rochester Regional Health involves providing direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans established by licensed nurses or RNs. The position requires flexibility to meet the needs of patients and the unit, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide and deliver safe and competent care for patients with activities of daily living needs such as ambulating, toileting, transferring, repositioning, and nutritional needs.
• Perform oral care, suctioning, and denture care.
• Administer bed baths and showers, and provide Foley and ostomy care where applicable.
• Change linens and maintain cleanliness in patient areas.
• Take and record patient vital signs including pulse, respirations, temperature, blood pressure, and O2 intake & output.
• Monitor and document all oral intake, urine, stool, and emesis output, as well as weights and blood glucose levels.
• Apply EKG leads and assist with specimen collection and blood draws.
• Provide post-mortem care as needed.
• Assist with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including room setup for new admissions and escorting discharges.
• Maintain patient charts and documentation of care provided.
• Deliver labs and ensure a safe, clean, and healthy environment for patients.

Requirements

• One year of experience with direct bedside patient care is strongly preferred.
• For Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) roles, two years of experience in a high acuity bedside patient care setting is strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact successfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
