About the position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Trinity Health Livonia involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The PCT is responsible for assisting patients with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining a safe and clean environment conducive to patient well-being. This position is essential in supporting the nursing staff and ensuring high-quality care for patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing care as delegated by the RN to meet treatment goals.
- Record and calculate intake and output, obtain weights, and vital signs.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, and ambulation.
- Apply support and orthopedic devices as needed.
- Provide care for restrained patients and monitor their condition.
- Assist in preparing the body following death and provide post-mortem care.
- Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures, using sterile techniques.
- Document patient information accurately to meet documentation requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe patient care environment.
- Assist in the use of hospital equipment and orient patients and families to the unit.
- Perform general clerical duties as needed, including answering phones and assembling charts.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long-term).
- Successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course is preferred.
- Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant or similar role.
