About the position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Maryview Medical Center provides essential direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. This role is crucial in ensuring patient comfort, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with daily living activities, all while maintaining high standards of customer service and documentation. The PCT plays a vital role in fostering patient independence and safety, contributing to the overall well-being of patients in a compassionate healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care including comfort, vital sign measurement, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance.
- Acts as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes and concerns.
- Delivers high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Documents patient care accurately and timely when applicable.
- Participates in hand-off reporting of pertinent patient information.
- Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
- Mobilizes patients using therapeutic transfer techniques to promote independence and safety.
- Encourages patients to complete tasks independently based on their interests.
Requirements
- Valid State Tested Nursing Assistant license or equivalent certification.
- BLS Basic Life Support certification (preferred upon hire).
- Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care facility (preferred).
- Ability to communicate clearly with healthcare team members.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards and regulations.
- Demonstrated understanding of infection prevention and transmission-based precautions.
- Ability to assist with daily living activities and patient mobility.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred).
