About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Thompson Health will engage in a variety of clinical tasks that are performed within a limited scope of practice, adhering to the regulations set forth by the New York State Education Department. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including inventorying supplies, organizing stock, rooming patients, and taking vital signs such as weights and performing EKGs. Additionally, the PCT will be involved in specimen collection and maintaining accurate medical record documentation. This position is designed to actively support healthcare providers and nursing staff, contributing to a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient care and service improvement. The PCT will work under the direct supervision of the Office Manager and Nurse Leader/Nurse Manager/Medical Director, receiving daily guidance from healthcare providers. The individual in this role must be adept at managing a demanding workload while ensuring accuracy in all tasks. Professional representation of the Urgent Care facility and its staff is essential, as is the ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals. The PCT will also be responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality of sensitive information related to patients, staff, and the health system. Successful completion of the hospital orientation program and department-specific training is required for this position. The PCT will play a vital role in departmental meetings, actively participating and identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhanced patient services.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory supplies and organize stock in the facility.
  • Room patients and take vital signs including weights and EKGs.
  • Perform specimen collection and document medical records accurately.
  • Support providers and nursing staff in daily operations.
  • Participate enthusiastically in departmental meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information regarding patients and staff.
  • Complete hospital orientation and department-specific training.

Requirements

  • Active BLS certification is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical background is required.
  • Computer knowledge and skills, including proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office, are required.
  • Ability to attain and maintain lab collection privileges once employed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) is preferred.
  • Strong experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is preferred.
