About the position

The Patient Safety Tech (PCT) plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe environment for patients at risk of self-injury or behavioral impairment. This position involves monitoring patients, assisting nursing staff with patient care, and maintaining compliance with hospital policies and accreditation standards. The PCT is responsible for observing patient behaviors, reporting vital signs, and documenting patient interactions to support nursing staff in delivering quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and monitor patients identified to be at risk for self-injury, falls, or behavioral impairment.
  • Notify the patient's nurse of any actions or behaviors suggesting potential harm to themselves or others.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and report vital signs and intake/output to the primary nurse.
  • Document patient behavior according to hospital policy during assigned shifts using required forms or reporting systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent education.
  • One year of experience in a medical setting preferred.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions.
  • Texas Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
  • Current BLS certification or must obtain within three months of hire date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in other languages preferred.
