The Patient Care Technician OB at MedStar Health plays a crucial role in providing direct patient care in obstetrical services, assisting nursing and medical staff with various procedures and patient activities. This position is integral to the patient-centered care team, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients while performing essential tasks under the supervision of registered nurses or medical providers.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care activities under supervision.
• Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
• Collects specimens and performs venipuncture/phlebotomy.
• Inserts intravenous (IV) catheters and performs routine treatments.
• Measures and documents vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output.
• Acts as scrub assistant during surgical procedures and assists in vaginal deliveries.
• Cleans and maintains specialized equipment and treatment areas.
• Participates in patient/family teaching and responds to inquiries.
• Maintains cleanliness and safety of patient rooms and environment.
• Transports and escorts patients during discharges and medical appointments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• 1-2 years' experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• CNA certification in Maryland.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.
• Experience as a care technician or surgical scrub/technician preferred.
• General health care experience in acute care or maternal/newborn settings preferred.
• Student nurse in junior or senior year preferred.
