About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Dialysis at the University of Virginia provides essential care to patients undergoing renal dialysis treatments. This role involves preparing and monitoring dialysis equipment, maintaining a sterile environment, and supporting licensed healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care. The PCT is a vital part of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring operational efficiency and effective communication during patient treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and monitors equipment used for hemodialysis.
  • Maintains an infection-free environment of care.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares dialysis stations.
  • Reinforces patient education.
  • Effectively communicates and demonstrates teamwork as part of the interdisciplinary team to support operational efficiency and safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Provides clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during patient care.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Previous health care experience preferred.
  • Certified as a Patient Care Dialysis Technician by a State Agency or Nationally Recognized Certification Program within 18 months of hire date.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Certification as a Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT), Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), or Certified in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT) is required.
