About the position
The position functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role involves operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a clean working environment, and participating in quality enhancement programs to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease processes.
- Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their wellbeing since the last treatment.
- Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated.
- Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight, and evaluate vascular access before treatment.
- Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and monitor patients' responses during treatment.
- Document treatment parameters and patient responses accurately on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
- Report significant changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse or supervisor.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new clinical staff and provide ongoing competency evaluations.
- Collaborate with clinical managers to drive quality standards through education and training programs.
- Participate in infection control audits and reinforce adherence to infection control practices among staff and patients.
Requirements
- Current dialysis experience and CCHT certification required.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least five years of patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
- Valid PCT national certification or state-specific certification as defined by CMS.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a healthcare facility with a focus on patient care and safety.
- Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
