About the position
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Fresenius Medical Care, you will play a vital role in supporting patients undergoing dialysis treatment. This position involves building strong relationships with patients and working closely with a healthcare team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about helping others and are eager to learn, with comprehensive training provided to ensure success in the position.
Responsibilities
- Set up, test, and operate hemodialysis machines for patient treatments.
- Obtain and document necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight for each patient.
- Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment and perform vascular access cannulation.
- Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
- Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy.
- Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access and discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
- Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to supervisor.
- Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.
- Collect, label, appropriately prepare, and store lab samples according to required laboratory specifications.
- Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
- Assist other healthcare members in providing patient education.
- Prepare, organize, and efficiently use supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Dependable, compassionate, caring, supportive, collaborative, and reliable qualities and traits are essential.
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility is preferred but not required.
- Successful completion of the Fresenius Medical Care dialysis training program and CPR certification is required for continued employment.
