About the position

Tucson Medical Center (TMC) is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician for the Pediatric Emergency Department. The Pediatric Emergency Department is a newly remodeled facility designated as a certified pediatric advanced prepared emergency center, featuring 14 private beds. This department is strategically located between the inpatient pediatric unit and the Pediatric ICU, fostering a collaborative working relationship among the pediatric service line. The department sees approximately 30,000 patients annually, handling a diverse range of chief complaints, from minor ailments like sore throats and lacerations to more critical cases involving respiratory distress and full codes. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, midlevel providers, registered nurses, medics, and unit clerks. The role requires a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. All nurses in the department are dedicated pediatric nurses, and the position requires certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI, and ENPC. Continuous professional development is emphasized, with all RNs required to complete 8 CEUs annually to maintain the department's designation. Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff.
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs and report any changes to the nursing staff.
  • Assist with patient mobility and personal hygiene needs.
  • Prepare and maintain patient rooms and equipment for procedures.
  • Support the nursing team in various tasks to ensure efficient department operations.
  • Participate in patient education and support activities as directed by nursing staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Six months of patient care experience preferred, or completion of clinicals in an accredited nursing program.
  • Completion of an EMT program, Medical Assistant program, Patient Care Tech program, or Certified Nursing Assistant program is acceptable.
  • Completion of student Med/Surg clinical rotation for Nurse Technicians.
