About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in Perioperative Services plays a vital role in the care delivery team, assisting Registered Nurses in providing direct patient care interventions. This part-time position focuses on ensuring a safe environment for patients, monitoring their conditions, and documenting care activities. The PCT is responsible for implementing care plans, promoting infection prevention, and supporting patients with daily living activities, all while fostering a patient-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Registered Nurses in providing delegated, direct patient care interventions.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report to the RN.
  • Document care activities and pertinent observations accurately.
  • Implement care plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Promote infection prevention through standard precautions and cleanliness.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and record vital signs accurately.
  • Communicate relevant patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Mentor new PCTs to ensure successful orientation and competence.
  • Participate in educational activities for department improvement.
  • Demonstrate advocacy and respect for diversity in patient care.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program or a medical assistant/patient care technician program.
  • Active certification as either an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) is required.
  • Experience in an office or clinic setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper patient care techniques and safety issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to relay patient information effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
