About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) position within the Resource Team at Edward-Elmhurst Health is a vital role that focuses on providing essential nursing and personal care to patients. This part-time position requires working 24 hours per week, specifically during the night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a commitment to work every other weekend. The PCT will report directly to the Clinical Manager or their designee and will be accountable to the care team. The role is designed for individuals who have completed an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course or are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program, having completed at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation. The PCT will be responsible for delivering care that is appropriate to the age and needs of the patients on the assigned unit, demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure high-quality patient care. In this position, the PCT will work closely with Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to assist in various patient care tasks. This includes monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The PCT will also be expected to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures. The role is crucial in supporting the overall healthcare team and enhancing the patient experience through compassionate care and effective communication. Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing and personal care to patients as delegated by and under the direction of a Registered Nurse and Licensed Practicing Nurse.
  • Monitor and record vital signs of patients.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety by maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding patient care needs.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures while providing care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
