About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Department at TUHJ is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. This role involves implementing care plans and performing various medical procedures to meet patients' basic human, mental health, and social needs. The PCT plays a crucial role in ensuring patient comfort, safety, and well-being in a fast-paced emergency environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care under the guidance of registered nurses.
  • Implements components of the plan of care through various procedures.
  • Measures vital signs and performs ECGs.
  • Conducts venipuncture and IV placement.
  • Performs capillary blood glucose testing.
  • Assists with activities of daily living and personal care needs.
  • Handles nutrition and fluid needs for patients.
  • Carries out Unit Secretary, Patient Transport, and Environment of Care duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Successful completion of Nurses Aide or Medical Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation program, EMT training program, or Nursing student with satisfactory completion of Nursing 101 clinical or equivalent clinical rotation (Required)
  • 1 Year experience in a related patient care role (Preferred)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification (Required)
