About the position

The position functions as part of the dialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The role involves operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a clean working environment, and participating in quality enhancement programs to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures and disease processes.
  • Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their wellbeing since the last treatment.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin as delegated.
  • Obtain pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight, and evaluate vascular access before treatment.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and monitor patients' responses during treatment.
  • Document treatment parameters and patient responses accurately and timely.
  • Report significant changes in patient conditions to the registered nurse or supervisor.
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of new clinical staff and provide ongoing competency evaluations.
  • Collaborate with clinical managers to drive quality standards through education and training programs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by disinfecting equipment and ensuring compliance with infection control practices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid PCT national certification or state-specific certification as defined by CMS.
  • At least five years of patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
  • Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare facility with direct patient care responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and infection control practices.
