About The Position

The Patient Companion is responsible for observing assigned patients to ensure their safety and well-being in a healthcare setting. This role involves providing continuous direct observation at the bedside, monitoring patients for any signs of self-harm or harm to others, and ensuring a therapeutic environment. The Patient Companion works under the supervision of a registered nurse and the Director of Critical Care and Psychiatric Services, handling confidential patient information.

Requirements

• CPR certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
• Successful completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification course prior to working as a patient companion.
• Code Violet training biannually.

Nice To Haves

• CNA certification (Certified Nursing Assistant).
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1-2 years of experience in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Observe assigned patients to ensure safety and prevent falls or injuries.
• Monitor patients' verbal and behavioral expressions for signs of self-harm or harm to others.
• Ensure patients do not leave without physician's permission.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients while hospitalized.
