About the position

The Patient Coordinator - Infusion role at Long Island Community Hospital is a full-time position focused on providing exceptional patient care and support within the infusion department. The coordinator is responsible for managing patient treatment plans, scheduling appointments, and ensuring compliance with medical protocols. This position emphasizes customer service and effective communication with patients and healthcare providers to facilitate a smooth operational flow in the infusion unit.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients upon entry to the unit and obtain demographic information.
  • Pre-register patients scheduled for the unit and support the operational flow of the infusion unit.
  • Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, and forms such as intake and insurance forms.
  • Compile and record medical charts, reports, and correspondence using a computer and various software programs.
  • Transmit correspondence and medical records by mail, email, or fax.
  • Manage general office tasks including scheduling and confirming patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and medical consultations.
  • Communicate with PAT and patient access for pending procedures.
  • Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff, receiving and routing messages and documents such as laboratory results.
  • Maintain medical records, technical library, and correspondence files.
  • Perform clerical and administrative functions such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Retrieve and enter patient lab results and medication profiles, following up on any outstanding documentation.
  • Complete patient charts upon discharge and document patient care-related activities.
  • Manage all paperwork required for effective billing and forward to the billing department.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding procedural instructions and with referring physician offices to acquire necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with word processing and computer databases required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Multitasking, detail-oriented, organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • One year of office experience required; two years preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years scheduling experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
