About The Position

The Patient Financial Services Counselor at Essentia Health is responsible for providing financial counseling to patients regarding their services. This role involves assisting patients in navigating payment options, Medicaid eligibility, and financial assistance programs, both in-person and virtually. The counselor will also perform account analysis to educate guarantors and help resolve their financial responsibilities, while maintaining a strong customer service orientation to exceed patient expectations.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Financial Counseling, Self-Pay Collections, Call Center, Billing, and/or Health Care.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Some trade course classes in accounting, business, and/or communications are beneficial.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge in registration, coding, insurance billing and payment methodology.
• Exceptional customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial counseling to patients regarding their services at Essentia Health.
• Assist patients with navigating payment options, Medicaid eligibility, and financial assistance programs.
• Perform self-pay liability price estimates as needed.
• Conduct account analysis to evaluate and develop action plans for educating guarantors.
• Assist with patient phone inquiries from the Patient Financial Services call center.
