About the position

The Patient Financial Services Representative for Collections at the University of Kentucky is responsible for the collection and resolution of inpatient and outpatient accounts from various payers. This role involves providing customer service to patients and families, ensuring effective cash collection to support healthcare operations, and participating in activities aimed at improving efficiency and patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and resolve inpatient and outpatient accounts from governmental, commercial, and managed care payers.
  • Provide customer service to patients and families to facilitate cash collection.
  • Utilize hospital and departmental resources to accomplish job duties effectively.
  • Participate in unit and enterprise activities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (AA) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Strong time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for patient information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience in third-party insurance claims follow-up/collections is preferred.
  • Medical office and/or clerical work experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with patient accounts and HIPAA regulations is highly preferred.
