About the position

The Patient Food Service Host Relief at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in providing exceptional food service to patients of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds. This position involves taking menu orders both in person and over the phone, utilizing a computerized diet office application, and applying basic knowledge of therapeutic diets. The host is responsible for assembling trays and delivering food to patients, ensuring that all dietary needs are met while building strong relationships with nursing staff and providing excellent customer service to patients and their families. The role requires compliance with facility standards, Nutritional Services (NS) guidelines, and regulatory standards, while also participating in departmental process improvement efforts. In this position, the host will utilize a computerized diet office application to guide and input patient menu selections, ensuring compliance with prescribed diet orders. The host will suggest complementary menu items, condiments, and add-ons to enhance patient satisfaction, while also verifying and reading back menu selections. Maintaining accurate records of patient preferences and pertinent information is essential. The host will follow approved scripting during menu ordering and delivery, demonstrating competency in using an iPad for bedside menu entry. The Patient Food Service Host will ensure that all food deliveries and retrievals are consistent with established timeframes, checking trays for accuracy before delivery. Providing quality and professional customer service is paramount, as the host will actively listen to customer feedback and respond to any food service concerns, implementing service recovery when necessary. The host will consistently obtain two patient identifiers, adhere to HIPAA regulations, and stay updated on NS policies and SOPs. Participation in staff meetings and completion of mandatory education is required, along with maintaining a professional appearance and positive attitude within the department.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to communicate with customers professionally and efficiently.
  • Ability to handle customer interactions in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Ability to use common software applications and hardware (e.g., iPad, ToughBook).
  • No previous experience is required.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Previous food service experience desirable.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain state specific certifications.
  • Servsafe certification preferred.
