About the position

The Patient Logistics Specialist at Vanderbilt Health plays a crucial role in coordinating the scheduling, admission, and transfer of patients from various referring facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and urgent care centers. This position is essential for ensuring effective patient throughput and balancing the operational needs of the clinical areas. The specialist will manage the initial admission processes for both critical and non-critical patients, ensuring that all necessary components are addressed with some guidance. This includes overseeing patient transport and environmental services tasks to facilitate smooth operations within the healthcare facility. In this role, the specialist will make informed recommendations to optimize patient outcomes based on comprehensive patient information, preferences, and the capabilities of both transferring and receiving facilities. They will screen admissions to ensure appropriateness of care levels and bed assignments, coordinating scheduling needs for appointments and perioperative procedures. The specialist will also conduct Bed Control Meetings alongside the Administrative Coordinator, engaging with multidisciplinary stakeholders to discuss expected patient movements, including admissions, transfers, and discharges. Additionally, the Patient Logistics Specialist will identify and report barriers to patient flow, making recommendations for process improvements. They will direct the activities of environmental services and transport staff, ensuring timely task completion and addressing any service-related issues. Continuous monitoring of response times is critical, and the specialist will alert supervisors if these times exceed departmental standards. Overall, this position requires a proactive approach to managing patient logistics and ensuring high-quality service delivery within the healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the scheduling, admission, and transfer of patients from referring hospitals, clinics, and urgent care centers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 4 years of relevant work experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Intermediate knowledge of customer service, data entry, documentation, and critical thinking.
