About the position

The Patient Observation Tech position at Houston Methodist is a full-time role focused on providing continuous electronic observation and surveillance of patients in a collaborative and innovative healthcare environment. The role involves assisting in patient care, redirecting at-risk behaviors, and communicating effectively with nursing staff and the interprofessional care team. The position requires working night shifts and includes responsibilities related to patient safety, quality care, and effective communication with patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous electronic observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
  • Verbally redirect patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors.
  • Summon nursing staff when patients require assistance.
  • Report observations and patient problems to licensed nurses.
  • Promote a positive work environment and participate in teamwork.
  • Organize daily workflow and prioritize simultaneous situations.
  • Maintain visual observation of assigned patients at all times.
  • Deliver and set up AvaSys Mobile Carts in patient rooms.
  • Communicate with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient behavioral changes.
  • Participate in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Six months of direct patient care experience or enrollment in a nursing program with completed first clinical rotation.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AvaSys TeleSitter Solution software.
  • Proficiency in a Windows-based environment.
