About the position
The Patient Observation Tech position at Houston Methodist is a critical role responsible for providing continuous electronic observation and surveillance of patients, assisting in patient care, and ensuring safety through effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team. This position is ideal for nursing students and involves working in a cutting-edge, innovative environment with a focus on patient and family-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Provide continuous electronic observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
- Verbally redirect patients from at-risk behaviors and summon nursing staff when assistance is needed.
- Report observations and patient problems to licensed nurses.
- Promote a positive work environment and collaborate with the interprofessional care team.
- Organize daily workflow and prioritize tasks while seeking guidance when necessary.
- Maintain visual observation of assigned patients at all times using digital audio devices.
- Deliver and set up AvaSys Mobile Carts in patient rooms and assist with testing equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient behavioral changes and conditions.
- Participate in identifying and reporting patient safety issues.
- Utilize resources efficiently and manage time effectively to minimize overtime.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Six months of direct patient care experience or enrollment in a nursing program with completed first clinical rotation.
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with AvaSys TeleSitter Solution software.
- Proficiency in navigating a windows-based environment.
