About the position

The Patient Placement Specialist at Intermountain Healthcare serves as the first point of contact for the Patient Placement department, facilitating patient flow and maintaining efficient throughput within the hospital. This PRN role involves working closely with the House Supervisor and Patient Flow Nurse to manage bed requests and assignments, ensuring timely communication and coordination among clinical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for all bed requests from all portals of entry.
  • Communicate complex clinical knowledge regarding admission status and bed availability with facilities, physicians, nurses, and other clinical personnel in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Make appropriate bed assignments in Teletracking for all routine bed requests using the patient placement matrix.
  • Prioritize bed assignments based on urgency of request.
  • Monitor Teletracking for bed requests, bed availability, and anticipated and confirmed discharges.
  • Monitor lengthy or outstanding inpatient bed requests to cancel or update admission requests.
  • Answer phone calls and communicate and/or escalate complicated placements and phone calls to the Patient Flow nurse.
  • Work with the Patient Flow nurse to process direct admissions and out of network admits.
  • Review Emergency department volume and surgery schedule to track patient status changes and estimated arrivals.
  • Learn new systems and multi-task in difficult situations.
