The primary duties include collecting insurance information, explaining hospital forms and financial options to patients, and coordinating discharge procedures. The clerk will also manage scheduling, referral management, registration, prior authorization, and insurance verification processes for patients, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded and communicated. In addition to these responsibilities, the Patient Registration/Admitting Clerk will be the first point of contact for patients and their families, requiring excellent communication skills to answer telephone inquiries, take messages, and interact courteously with other members of the ED staff, physicians, and patients. The role also involves filing and posting all diagnostic reports, graphing vital signs on patient charts after review by nursing staff, and accurately transcribing and entering physician's orders in accordance with LMC policies and procedures.
