About the position

The Patient Registration Specialist at Northwest Florida Community Hospital (NFCH) is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in the Patient Registration Department. This role involves gathering patient information, establishing medical records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations while supporting the hospital's mission of caring for the community.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to gather demographic and insurance information for registration.
  • Establish the patient medical record.
  • Provide Advanced Beneficiary Notices, HIPAA, Patient Rights, and benefit assignments as directed.
  • Obtain authorizations, certifications, and referrals from insurance companies.
  • Identify patient's financial responsibilities and collect payments.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, their relatives, and the healthcare organization.
  • Communicate patients' questions and concerns to appropriate staff members.
  • Explain policies and procedures to patients and refer them to the proper services required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and privacy rights of residents are observed.
  • Support and promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital; adhere to all policies and procedures; maintain professional appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer-focused industry.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of patient registration, insurance reimbursement, and billing.
  • Familiarity with computer-based billing, patient accounts, and registration management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service, patience, empathy, and compassion.
  • Strong computer and communication skills.
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking, and reading comprehension.
  • Good collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Fast and adaptive problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established Federal, State, and Local rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience in healthcare patient registration with in-depth knowledge of patient registration process, healthcare billing and reimbursement, insurance verification, and medical terminology.
  • Financial counseling and negotiating skills.
